The School of Management team of Tarunpreet Singh, MBA’12; Nicholas Lauzze, MBA’12; and George Kurian, MBA’12, took first place at the Annual Whitman’s MBA Case Competition organized by the Whitman School at Syracuse University. The SOM team competed against 21 teams from different universities, with eight teams making it to the final-round challenge held at Syracuse University on March 23. The SOM team won the first place and $2,000 in prize money, beating out the two runner-up teams: University at Buffalo and University or Rochester. Associate Professor Debi Prasad Mishra mentored the team in the final round.

David Sloan Wilson recently received a Books for a Better Life Award for his book, The Neighborhood Project, from the Southern New York Chapter of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society. The award which recognizes authors whose messages are aligned with the chapter鈥檚 mission of inspiring people to live their best lives, was presented at the organization鈥檚 16th annual ceremony held Monday, March 12, at The TimesCenter in Manhattan. Sloan鈥檚 was given in the 鈥済reen鈥� category. Winners were chosen from five nominees in each of the 10 self-improvement categories. Since their inception in 1996, the Books for a Better Life Awards have recognized more than 600 self-improvement authors, raising more than $1.8 million for the New York City - Southern New York Chapter鈥檚 comprehensive support services and educational programs for people living with MS, their friends and families.

The Harpur College Dean’s office announces the winners of the Andrew Bergman Award in Creative Writing 2012-13. First place goes to Mi-Kyung Shin for her short story, “Poor Elise”; Allison Hackman wins second place for her poem titled “Haverford”; and Joanne Rosenthal takes third place for her collection of poems. Join us in congratulating these talented young writers. Andrew Bergman graduated from Harpur College in 1965 with a degree in history. He is a renowned author, screenwriter and producer of such works as Blazing Saddles, Fletch and Honeymoon in Vegas. He established this award to encourage young artists and to nurture their talent.

Binghamton alumnae Marella Feltrin Morris, Mar铆a Constanza Guzm谩n and Deborah Folaron edited a collection of essays to honor Distinguished Service Professor Marilyn Gaddis Rose, founder of the Translation Research and Instruction Program at 黑料视频. The title of the volume is Translation and Literary Studies: Homage to Marilyn Gaddis Rose (Manchester, UK: St. Jerome Publishing, 2012).

Libby Tucker, professor of English, has become president-elect of the International Society for Contemporary Legend Research.

The Office of Research Advancement received two awards in the annual Accolades competition organized by District II of the Council for Advancement and Support of Education. Discover-e, a website dedicated to 黑料视频 research news, was honored with a silver award in the news websites category. The site is edited by Rachel Coker, director of research advancement; with design by Martha Terry, creative services manager; and technical support from Oren Levi, information services manager. The cover Terry created for the spring/summer 2011 research magazine, 鈥淎 Shot of Innovation,鈥� received a bronze award in the visual design in print/covers category. The awards were presented during the district鈥檚 conference on Jan. 23 in New York City.
